King Cobra Snake They say that the lion is the king of the jungle, however it is very possible that the King Cobra snake has a legitimate claim on that title. This extremely venomous beast is the largest snake in the world and resides mostly in Asia. A fully grown King Cobra snake can be as long 4.5 meters in length and more incredibly can appear to rise their head and body off the ground as if standing, making it possible for them to look directly into the eyes of a grown man. If a grown man was ever unfortunate enough to find himself in a position of looking directly into the eyes of a King Cobra snake, it would be a very perilous situation. Although the venom from a King Cobra snake is extremely poisonous, it can be treated by anti-venin so if it were possible to be treated following a bite, your life will be saved. Bizarrely, the anti venin is taken from the blood of a horse after its blood has been mixed with a non lethal measure of King Cobra Snake venom. The King Cobra snake has a mystical aura in parts of India, in fact it is worshipped during Nag Panchami which is a festive occasion that happens in India during their month of Shravan, which is their rainy season. The King Cobra snake is revered and honoured during Shravan, as this is the time of year snakes are most likely to harm humans as the rainy season means they are often looking for dryer environments, which means they are more prone to coming into contact with humans. The zoology name for a King Cobra snake is, Ophiophagus Hannah. Interestingly, it is widely believed that the King Cobra has a high degree of intelligence compared to other snakes. This view has been reported by zoo keepers and other carers, they particularly highlight the snake’s apparent ability to solve problems. Whilst solving problems may suggest a higher intelligence, it has not stopped the King Cobra snake from becoming an endangered species. This is due to its natural habitat of the Asian rain forests being destroyed to make way for new human settlements or for its natural resources. |
